Moor Farm Shop on Decoy Road in Newborough has a tearoom serving breakfast and lunch alongside the farm shop.

This is not really the breakfast for somebody eating with one eye on the clock.

The attraction is getting out to Newborough, sitting down properly and having the farm shop next door afterwards.

Moor Farm makes a point of the provenance of its meat, with fully traceable produce part of what it sells.

So this is breakfast for the morning when breakfast itself is the plan.

No grabbing something on the way somewhere else.

No eating in the car.

Just sit down, have breakfast and accept that the morning may move slightly more slowly than usual.

The “Coffee First, Then We’ll Talk” Breakfast — Coffee Friends

Coffee Friends at 19–21 Broadway is a different kind of start.

Coffee, Turkish tea, breakfast dishes, omelettes, sandwiches and crêpes are all on the menu.

This is the one for meeting somebody in town when neither of you necessarily wants breakfast to become a major event.

Coffee and something to eat.

A catch-up.

Then carry on with the day.

And there is something to be said for a café where you can decide whether breakfast means an omelette, a crêpe or simply another coffee.

Some mornings require flexibility.

The “How Is A Full English Still £7.25?” Breakfast — Fontanellas

Fontanellas at 10 Market Street in Whittlesey gives us a cost for a breaky that jumps off the menu as seriously good value.

A Full English is currently listed at £7.25.

The breakfast panini is £4.50.

Breakfast is served from 10am until noon, Tuesday to Saturday.

And if sausage, bacon and beans are not what you woke up wanting, there is also a continental breakfast with Italian meats and cheeses.

At £7.25, though, the Full English is the figure that makes you look twice.

Especially now that breakfast and a coffee in some places can wander towards £15 before you have properly noticed what happened.

It also gives you a reason to head out towards Whittlesey rather than automatically staying in central Peterborough.

Because sometimes breakfast is just fuel.

And sometimes it is the best reason you have had all morning to get dressed and leave the house.
